Fundraising

The riding will be magnificent, challenging and hugely rewarding but our primary objective is to raise money for Duchenne UK and to fund treatments that will save the lives of boys with DMD.

Building on the success of the 2017 Dash MAX, which raised over £195,000, our objective next year is to raise £250,000, all of which will be used to fund research and trials, in to the use of drugs to treat DMD that have been approved for other diseases. Rationale: by using existing drugs with proven safety, the drug development process is quicker and relatively inexpensive, with this approach, known as “re purposing”, having proved hugely effective in other disease areas, such as oncology.

Outcome: effective treatments in 12 to 24 months rather than 10+ years, by which time, this generation of Duchenne boys will, be in wheelchairs and on respirators.

Examples of how the money will be used:

  • £100,000 for a 2-year post-doc appointment, to run trial;
  • £50,000 for lab and staff;
  • £50,000 to administer trial;
  • £25,000 to purchase drugs required for the trial;
  • £25,000 for peer review and publishing
