Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)

DMD is an incurable and fatal muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common fatal genetic disease diagnosed in childhood and usually only affects boys, who are typically diagnosed before the age of 5. There is accelerating deterioration from birth, resulting in significant decrease in quality of life from age 7 to 8, wheelchair dependency by early teens, total dependency by mid- to late-teens and death in their early to mid-twenties from lung and heart failure.

The disease, whilst genetic, is not necessarily hereditary and is indiscriminate. Two boys per week are diagnosed in the the U.K., where there are currently approximately 2,000 patients. Up to 350,000 children and young adults suffer globally. We can help them but it’s a race against time we must act quickly, so please join us on this ride of a lifetime.
